"I work with AN AMAZING TEAM THAT DOES REMARKABLE WORK"

Tamara Abu Laban

Tamara Abu Laban was born and grew up in Dheisheh refugee camp near Bethlehem. This experience, although very hard because of the difficult circumstances, jump-started her creativity and made her think of all the stories that can be told under occupation.

Behind The Fence

Feature Documentary

The people of Dheisheh refugee camp in the First Intifada (late 80s) trying to live with no walls or segregations facing the occupation procedures and restrictions. As more and more people took to the streets in the fight against apartheid the film documented the social life simple strories within this situation.

It is not easy to project yourself, although you know a lot about it. This film documents the experiences of people I lived with, knew their stories and their victories that have never been documented before. We fought the occupation with our simplicity, love of the cause and love of our land. Now I look forward to present this film about the camp during one of golden phases of the Palestinian resistance, this film features another corner of the camp with all its contradictions, ugliness and beauty.
